United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammad bin Zeid is flying to Russia today to meet with President Vladimir Putin, the Emirates News Agency reported.
According to the Prime Minister of the country, the visit of the UAE leader is intended to help "an effective political resolution" of the Ukrainian crisis.
The Emirates is "trying to achieve political results to reduce military escalation and reduce the humanitarian consequences of hostilities, as well as to achieve a political solution to the conflict, contributing to peace and security," the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Bilateral talks with the Russian leader will primarily focus on the latest developments in Ukraine, during which the UAE will try to facilitate the start of a dialogue between the warring parties, which must be conducted with respect for the principles of international law.
In addition to Ukraine, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zeid and Vladimir Putin will discuss the strengthening of bilateral ties, as well as several regional and international issues that are of mutual interest to the parties.
