The head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry called the reasons for the failure of peace talks on Ukraine

Belarus (bbabo.net), - The leadership of Ukraine was given a clear command by some Western countries: not to negotiate with the leadership of Russia. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei in an interview with Izvestia.

“Any confrontation ends at the negotiating table – this is a diplomatic axiom. And these events in Ukraine in any case will end the same way. The President instructed me to ensure these three rounds of Ukrainian-Russian negotiations that took place on Belarusian soil. And believe me, with each round, more hope for success appeared. And after the third round, both the first and the second delegations said: “We are coming in a few days to sign the final documents.” God only knows what happened next, but in New York I was told by colleagues from some European countries that the leadership of Ukraine was given a clear command: not to negotiate with the leadership of Russia. It does not matter: on the territory of Belarus, on the territory of Turkey - to stop negotiations with Russia altogether. These were statements by some European colleagues, spoken in great secrecy, who ordered Mr. Zelensky (President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky -bbabo.net) to do this, ”he said.

At the same time, Makei did not name the countries. gave such orders to Kyiv.

“I will not name countries. I can only say that every time, after each round, when the government delegation told us that there was clear progress and they would move on, after returning home a day later, they already began to win back these agreements. There were some additional problems and difficulties. I think, not without advice from an adviser from outside. As a result, negotiations had to be started, albeit not from scratch, but from some initial positions. I am deeply convinced that the lack of independence of the Ukrainian leadership is one of the reasons for the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine,” the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.

Makei also stressed that "Belarus has always believed that only negotiations can resolve any situation - complex, tense, conflict-prone, which we are now witnessing in Ukraine."

“What Matviyenko (Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko — bbabo.net) suggested in Indonesia, I think is absolutely justified. But negotiations can only be successful with the political will of all the parties involved. If it does not exist, it does not matter where the negotiations take place, in Belarus, in Turkey, or at least in Antarctica, there will be no success. Today, unfortunately, I do not see such political will, at least from the Ukrainian side. I am a pessimist in this case and I think that only the deterioration of the situation in the country can push for a decision,” he stressed.

In addition, the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry believes that "at least three Slavic states should participate in the negotiations."

“We live in the same region here, we are neighbors, and we could work out mutually acceptable, compromise lines of behavior. We are ready to provide our platform, ready to be mediators or provide logistical and organizational assistance. We helped organize the work of the OSCE trilateral contact group, then everyone was happy and thanked the Belarusian side. Just like we organized all three rounds of negotiations on our territory. We are ready to do everything to ensure that this conflict ends as soon as possible. But, unfortunately, not everything depends on us. If there is no external interference, agreements can be reached much faster,” Vladimir Makei said.

Recall that since February 24, a Russian special military operation has been taking place in Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly offered Kyiv to sit down at the negotiating table, but after the first few attempts in the spring, this process was stopped at the initiative of the Ukrainian authorities. Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky legislated the refusal to negotiate with the current leadership of Russia.
