Australia no longer recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital

The Australian authorities have announced that they no longer recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The previous government of Australia recognized West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in 2018, but the country's new foreign minister, Penny Wong, said that the decision on such a status of the city can only be made by the Palestinians and Israelis themselves as a result of peace negotiations, and not by third parties.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid sharply criticized Australia's decision, calling it "hasty"
