Russia (bbabo.net), - Telephone talks between Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin took place on the initiative of the American side. This was announced by Deputy Press Secretary of the US Department of Defense Sabrina Singh.

At a briefing for journalists, Singh noted that Austin initiated a telephone conversation with Shoigu. Then she was asked why it was decided to call the head of the Russian Defense Ministry on Friday.

“Today just provided a good opportunity, the right opportunity for this call to take place,” the Pentagon spokeswoman replied.

According to her, against the backdrop of the Russian military special operation in Ukraine, “this day provided the best opportunity for communication.”

Singh declined to give the length of the conversation or other details, but called the talks "a good opportunity to make contact."

As bbabo.net reported, on October 21, the Russian military department reported that Shoigu had discussed with Austin current international security issues, including the situation in Ukraine. Prior to this, telephone conversations between the Russian and US defense ministers took place in February and May.
