SIGAR: Taliban are turning public schools into madrasahs

Asia (bbabo.net), - In Afghanistan, the Taliban are turning public schools into religious madrasahs. This was stated by US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) John Sopko, reports AamajNews.

Sopko added that the Taliban had converted a teacher training center and three secondary schools in the provinces of Kunar, Khost, Paktia and Kandahar into madrasahs. Also in his report, he mentioned the total censorship of the media, saying that Afghanistan is abandoning the "achievements" of the past two decades.

According to SIGAR, about half of all Afghan media closed down in the first six months of the Taliban's rule, and now the Taliban have issued special guidelines according to which no media outlets have the right to broadcast anything without permission. The report added that contrary to the Taliban's claims of GDP growth, Afghanistan's healthcare system is crumbling because all the professionals have left the country.
