Asia (bbabo.net), - Canada needs to improve cooperation with Russia and China because of the intensification of the struggle for influence in the world. This was announced on Saturday, October 29, by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly.
“There is a struggle for influence as Russia and China turn towards Africa, Asia and Latin America. We need to show ourselves, get in touch and interact, ”she said in an interview with CBC.
Joly believes that the Canadian government in the current situation needs to proceed from a more pragmatic approach, since the "tectonic plates of the world" are in motion and create instability.
The head of the Canadian Foreign Ministry noted that participation in international discussions with representatives of Russia makes it possible to oppose the position of the country. Although she has no desire to sit next to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Joly added.
According to her, the absence of Canada in the dialogue is not conducive to overall stability. In addition, she stressed that with such a policy, the country is losing its influence in the world, as other G7 countries communicate with Russia and China.
Earlier in the day in Canada, protesters disrupted an event attended by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. People demanded an end to support for the Kyiv regime.
The day before, the Canadian government imposed sanctions against six companies in the energy sector, as well as 35 Russian citizens. The restrictions affected, in particular, Lukoil. The sanctions list also includes Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and head of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.
