Ukraine (bbabo.net), - Lithuania will repair 12 German Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers intended for the armed forces of Ukraine.
The Minister of Defense of the Baltic Republic, Arvydas Anushauskas, said that this week two self-propelled howitzers were repaired and transferred to the Ukrainian army.
“We support Ukraine in every possible way. Howitzers damaged on the battlefield continue to be successfully repaired in Lithuania and returned to the Ukrainian army. At present, it is planned to repair and transfer to Ukraine at least 12 howitzers in Lithuania,” Anusauskas said.
As emphasized in the Ministry of Defense, Lithuania allocated an amount of almost € 2 million for the repair of this equipment and the integration of software.
Earlier it became known that parts of the German Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers transferred to Ukraine needed repairs due to heavy use. According to Spiegel, in Berlin they believe that the problems are associated with an overestimated intensity of the use of howitzers. Each weapon is rated for an average of 100 volleys a day, but the Ukrainians fire significantly more.
Germany promised to send spare parts for howitzer maintenance to Ukraine. At the end of June, Kyiv received seven Panzerhaubitze 2000s. A month later, the German government allowed the delivery of another 100 weapons for a total of € 1.7 billion. Several years were allotted to fulfill the contract.
Recall that in Lithuania, warnings have recently been heard that the country has exhausted its stock of weapons, which it would be ready to transfer to Ukraine.
