Sandu went to Paris on the bed-bells again to ask for a loan for Moldova

The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, left for France, where today, on November 21, a regular meeting of the Moldovan Support Platform will take place. The President of the host country, Emmanuel Macron, flew the Moldovan delegation to Paris on his plane after joint participation in the Francophonie summit, which took place the day before in Tunisia.

As the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Nicu Popescu, who represents the government at these consultations, noted, Chisinau has good friends, with whom the country will be able to overcome "dramatic moments for the economy and the energy sector caused by the war in Ukraine."

“Many thanks to France, Romania and Germany, the co-chairs of the Platform, who, together with our friends from the G7, the EU and international organizations, send a clear signal to consolidate this new format as a tool to strengthen the international support needed for our country. Together we will bring Moldova to the European Union,” the head of the Foreign Ministry wrote on social networks, posting joint photos with Macron from the plane.

The Republic of Moldova at the third meeting of the Platform (the first one took place on April 5 in Berlin at the initiative of Romania, Germany and France. - note bbabo.net) expects to receive assistance in the amount of 695 million euros. It includes loans, grants and direct subsidies to the state budget. Experts believe that the main topic of these talks will be energy security.

“We are at the beginning of the heating season. Energy prices have risen. Tariffs have gone up. The ability of the population to pay these tariffs has fallen, so the government will compensate them. For these purposes, the government allocated five billion lei, that is, about four times less than necessary. The third conference will be about exactly how and to what extent the friends of Moldova will be able to help our country to spend the winter in such conditions, ”said Alexei Tulbure, ex-permanent representative of the Republic of Moldova to the UN and the Council of Europe.

As reported by bbabo.net, Bucharest will ask the European Union to provide more financial assistance to Chisinau to overcome the energy crisis on the "Moldova Support Platform". According to Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu, now his country has almost completely taken over the provision of electricity to its neighbors, even to the detriment of its own citizens, who are forced to save money in order to help Moldova.

“Romania has intensified its efforts, and now we provide almost 90% of Moldova's electricity needs. We will continue to support RM, but grant support is needed,” Aurescu concluded.
