“The proposed expansion of the ban on information on LGBT issues in Russia would be another major blow to freedom of expression and the rights of LGBT people in Russia. We call on Russian legislators to withdraw the bill and respect the human rights and dignity of all,” he said in a statement.

The document was developed to establish a mechanism for protecting society from propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations and protecting children from destructive information. It provides for the introduction of administrative fines of up to 10 million rubles for promoting non-traditional sexual relations, pedophilia and gender reassignment among both minors and adults.
