Anniversary Resolution: UN General Assembly urges US to lift blockade of Cuba for 30th time

Today, November 3, the UN General Assembly again adopted a resolution calling on the United States to end the economic and trade blockade against Cuba. 185 countries voted in favor, Israel and the United States voted against, Brazil and Ukraine abstained.

In the adopted document, the UN General Assembly expresses its regret that the economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba continues to operate and entails adverse consequences for the Cuban people. The resolution calls on all states that have restrictive measures against Cuba to take the necessary steps as soon as possible to lift them.

It should be noted that this is already the 30th resolution of the UN General Assembly calling for an end to the blockade of Cuba, voting has been held almost every year since 1992.

The United States severed diplomatic ties with Cuba in 1961 after the nationalization of American property on the island. Then Washington announced the introduction of a trade and economic embargo against the country.
