Kazakh oligarch Kairat Boranbaev extended his arrest

Asia (, - The arrest of Kazakh oligarch Kairat Boranbaev was extended until December 12, reports today, November 24, citing the press service of the Astana court.

“On October 12, the specialized inter-district investigative court of the city of Astana extended the term of the authorized measure of restraint in the form of detention against the suspect Kairat Boranbaev for two months,” the press service said.

Kairata Boranbaev is suspected of embezzlement on an especially large scale in the quasi-public sector. He was detained on March 17 this year.

The oligarch is included in the top 50 most influential businessmen in Kazakhstan, is the owner of the Kairat football club (Alma-Ata), McDonald's franchise in Kazakhstan, Belarus and several regions of Russia.

According to, Boranbaev owns the Alex-Saryagash mineral water bottling company, the Almaly asset management company, the Kazakh petrochemical company Chemical, the holding company KazTurboRemont, and many others.

He is included in the circle of especially close people to the former President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Boranbayev's daughter Alima married Nazarbayev's late grandson Aisultan in 2013.
