Azerbaijani Defense Ministry rebuked Russian peacekeepers because of fictitious toponyms

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan called on Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh to prevent "provocative actions of Armenians" and not to use "fictitious" toponyms, the Azerbaijani military department itself reports today, November 25.

The statement notes that the list and map of the settlements of the "Karabakh economic region of the Republic of Azerbaijan" (the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan stubbornly refuses to use the administrative-territorial concept of "Nagorno-Karabakh", although it is mentioned several times in the tripartite statement of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan dated November 9, 2020, signed by President Ilham Aliyev - Ed.) with names corresponding to Azerbaijani toponyms, were officially sent by Azerbaijan to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the previous and current command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent temporarily deployed on the territory of Azerbaijan, as well as to Joint Turkish-Russian monitoring center. In repeated appeals, the need to use these namessages was expressed.

“Despite this, unfortunately, in the official messages of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation, published on the official website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the names of our settlements are indicated by fictitious Armenian toponyms. Thus, the official information of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation dated November 24, 2022 refers to the alleged violation of the ceasefire by Azerbaijan in the direction of the Magavuz settlement,” the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

In connection with the above, they decided to bring to the attention of the Russian side that "the official name of the indicated Azerbaijani settlement, which they call Magavuz, is Chardagli."

“The divisions of the Azerbaijani army did not violate the truce and did not fire a single shot in the indicated direction. We call on the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent temporarily stationed on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan to correctly toponymize the names of settlements on the territory of our country in their respective messages and seriously suppress all provocative actions of illegal Armenian military formations, including mining territories,” the Ministry of Defense of the republic indicated.

Under "illegal Armenian military formations" in Baku they mean units of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army.

It should be noted that in its reports on ceasefire violations on the border with Armenia, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijani toponyms of settlements and regions of the neighboring republic. Moreover, such an attitude, as one can understand, was given from the highest echelons of power in Baku.

Recall that the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, while in August last year in the city of Kalbajar, which, following the results of the war in Karabakh in the fall of 2020, came under the control of Baku, urged “in reports and in general in our vocabulary to use not Vardenis, but the name Basarkecher.” Long before the 44-day war in the region, the Azerbaijani leader more than once embarked on historical digressions, asserting, in particular, the rights of Azerbaijanis to "Irevan", calling the Armenian capital "our historical city."
