Bridge with an eye on the corridor: Azerbaijan is building the largest railway facility

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - Azerbaijan Railways CJSC is building a railway bridge across the Khakari River (the left tributary of the Araks), which will be the largest in the country, Report news agency reported today, November 24.

The structure will be 418 meters long and 6.5 meters wide.

The work is being carried out as part of the construction of the Horadiz-Aghbend line, the foundation of which was laid on February 14 last year with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev.

It is planned that the project will be completed at the end of next year and it will become the railway part of the Zangezur Corridor, which Baku seeks to connect the western regions of Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan through the territory of Armenia.

The railway line under construction is one-way, the length along the axis is 110.4 kilometers. It will operate 9 stations: Horadiz, Marjanly, Mahmudlu, Soltanly, Gumlag, Khakari, Minjivan, Bartaz, Agbend.

Within the framework of the project, it is also planned to put into operation 456 artificial engineering structures, 70 turnouts, a communication and signaling line with a length of more than 110 km.

The "Zangezur Corridor" creates opportunities for additional transit of 5-8 million tons of cargo through the territory of Azerbaijan. Such an assessment, as bbabo.net reported, was shared in September by the Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic, Rahman Hummatov.
