Federal Security Service for Chechnya opened a criminal case against Akhmed Zakayev

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - The FSB Department for Chechnya opened a criminal case against one of the leaders of the Chechen separatists, Akhmed Zakayev, for creating a battalion fighting against Russia in Ukraine.

“Based on the materials of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Chechen Republic, the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Chechen Republic initiated a criminal case under Part 1 of Art. 205.4 of the Criminal Code of Russia "Creation of a terrorist community" in relation to Zakaev Akhmed Khamitovich. Zakayev, while on the territory of the Republic of Ukraine, took part in the creation of the terrorist community “Separate Special Purpose Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria,” the UFSB press service said.

Zakaev is a former brigadier general of the terrorist "Ichkeria". In 2001, he was put on the federal and international wanted list. Since 2003 he has been living in the UK, he was granted political asylum.

bbabo.net reported that in March 2021, the investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Chechnya opened a criminal case against Zakaev under part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism).

According to the investigation, in January 2021, the suspect posted an appeal on the YouTube video hosting service, in which, according to the expert, he made statements expressing incitement to commit acts of violence.

Prior to that, on January 25, Russian State Duma deputy Shamsail Saraliev appealed to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a request to send a note of protest to the UK and take steps to extradite Zakayev.

“After a successful special operation on January 20, 2021 to eliminate a gang of militants of the terrorist organization ISIS, banned in Russia, on the territory of the Chechen Republic, the former Deputy Prime Minister of the virtual “Republic of Ichkeria” Akhmed Zakayev, expressed support for the destroyed militants, expressed condolences to their families, called the terrorists national heroes and offered to present them for state awards,” the deputy explained.

Saraliyev recalled that Zakayev was put on the international wanted list and accused of committing a number of grave and especially grave crimes, including murder, kidnapping, organizing an armed rebellion and actively participating in it in order to change the constitutional order and violate the territorial integrity of Russia, terrorism.

“It is known that from 1995 to 2000 A. Zakayev took an active part in organizing armed gangs on the territory of the Russian Federation, one of which he personally headed. Terrorist Akhmed Zakayev currently lives in the UK, where he received political asylum and from where he freely and openly expresses support for international terrorism. In this regard, I ask you, dear Sergey Viktorovich, to send a note of protest to the UK and take measures to extradite the terrorist Akhmed Zakayev in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation and international law,” the deputy asked.
