Imaginary Canadian democracy: restriction of freedom of speech and interpretation of foreign laws

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - Canadian writer and activist Yves Engler was expelled from the Rebuild Ukraine conference after questioning Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Christa Freeland about negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. According to the columnist himself, the incident happened on November 23.

“Are you negotiating to end this horror? Why is the Canadian government not calling for negotiations? Even the head of the US military is calling for negotiations. Do you just want to continue this proxy war?" shouted a reporter from the audience.

And the guards immediately took him out by the arms. Deputy Prime Minister Freeland did not answer any of his questions from Engler.

Of course, Le Journal de Montréal criticized Engler's act, accusing him, as expected, of spreading Russian propaganda.

Meanwhile, today, November 28, Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov announced that he was summoned to the Canadian Foreign Ministry at 23:30 Moscow time.

Earlier, Canadian media reported that the call of the Russian diplomat was related to the embassy's publication of the provisions of the bill to ban LGBT propaganda, which the Foreign Ministry called an attack on "Canadian values - acceptance and tolerance."

Recall that on November 24, the State Duma adopted in the third reading a bill on the protection of traditional values, which provides for punishment for propaganda and justification of pedophilia and sex change in the media, the Internet, literature and cinema. As stated in the explanatory note to the bill, it was developed to establish a mechanism for protecting society from propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations and protecting children from destructive information.

The Russian Embassy in Ottawa, commenting on the reaction of the Canadian authorities to the adoption of the law, emphasized that the leadership of the country and other states distort the real picture, speaking about universal human rights in connection with the adoption of the said law in Russia.

In Russia, "there is no discrimination against the rights of sexual or other types of minorities," and the adopted bill implies a ban on the distribution of materials that promote same-sex sexual relations or preferences, the diplomatic mission said.
