Caucasus (bbabo.net), - The United States believes in the possibility of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as in the development potential of the South Caucasus. This is stated in the video message of the American Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, Senior Advisor to the State Department for Negotiations in the South Caucasus, Philip Ricoeur, which was distributed today, November 29, following his visit to Baku.
From the capital of Azerbaijan, Riker heads to Tbilisi, then to Yerevan.
“Secretary of State Anthony Blinken firmly believes in the possibility of peace and the development potential of the South Caucasus. He asked me to visit this week a region that is important to us, ”said a senior State Department official.
According to him, the American side understands that the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not easy, and that the conflict between the two republics over the years has been the cause of much hardship and suffering in the region.
“However, I believe there is hope. Hope for a peaceful future. I hope that the momentum of these peace talks will continue and a new chapter of history can be opened for a brighter future for all. I have seen real steps, bold steps from both countries that can build a future and a lasting peace,” Riker said.
He further reiterated the point made earlier by Secretary Blinken that the US supports direct dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan and calls for that momentum to be maintained in 2023.
As reported by bbabo.net, last Monday President Ilham Aliyev received US State Department senior adviser Philip Reeker in Baku. The parties discussed the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
