Greater Middle East (bbabo.net) - Benyamin Netanyahu will do everything to avoid jail time, outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said. It is reported by Reuters on November 29.

Speaking at a conference in Jerusalem, Lapid said Netanyahu would seek judicial reform to appoint judges to try his corruption cases: “The bottom line is that he will be the second prime minister in the history of the country to go to jail… There is nothing what he won't do to prevent it."

Netanyahu has been accused of fraud, bribery and breach of trust since 2020, and he vehemently denies the allegations.

Ehud Olmert was the first Israeli prime minister to be imprisoned on corruption charges.

Netanyahu is currently in consultation with right-wing parties to form a future Israeli government, as his coalition has secured a parliamentary majority that allows him to form a government.

Earlier, Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog said: "Of course, I do not forget that there are ongoing legal proceedings against Mr. Netanyahu in the Jerusalem District Court, and I am not simplifying this at all." But he noted that Netanyahu could serve as prime minister, challenging the allegations.
