Greater Middle East (bbabo.net), - The Iranian authorities for the first time officially announced the total number of victims of the protests taking place in the country. It is reported by the Associated Press with reference to the Iranian commander.
According to one of the commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Amir Ali Hajizade, more than 300 people were killed during the protests, including members of the security forces. He also stated that many of the victims were ordinary Iranians who did not take part in the protests.
However, Human Rights Defenders in Iran (HRAI) reports that according to its information, 451 protesters and 60 security personnel were killed in the riots. More than 18 thousand people were detained.
Massive protests began in Iran this fall. They followed the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman who was detained by morality police outside a metro station in Tehran in September for wearing the hijab incorrectly. She died a few days after her arrest.
