Baku declared a toponymic war in Nagorno-Karabakh to Russian peacekeepers

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - The “disdainful attitude” of the Russian peacekeeping contingent towards our appeals is regrettable. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan distributed on the evening of November 29.

“We want to point out once again that the names of our settlements on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan with fictitious Armenian toponyms, including using the phrase “territory of Nagorno-Karabakh,” are unacceptable,” the military department of the Transcaucasian republic emphasized.

They called on the Russian peacekeeping contingent (RMK) "not to use incorrect expressions", expressing the hope that "this call will be heard."

“We are forced to remind once again that in the official information of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation dated November 29, 2022, published on the official website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the territory indicated as the “territory of Nagorno-Karabakh” is the Karabakh economic region, and the official names of the settlements are “Mardakert” and “ Martuni" - Agdere and Khojavend, respectively," the statement said.

The ministry also pointed out that the report in the RCC newsletter that Azerbaijani army units opened fire in the direction of Shushi, as a result of which two people were injured, “has no real basis and is completely false.”

The Defense Army of Nagorno-Karabakh reported on November 28 that two soldiers of the unrecognized republic were wounded as a result of violations of the ceasefire by the Azerbaijani side. The command of the RMK confirmed this information, pointing to the ongoing investigation with the Azerbaijani side of another violation of the ceasefire regime in the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers in the region.

Representatives of the RMK in Nagorno-Karabakh reacted on November 25 to the statement of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, which was outraged by the toponym Magavuz, used in the information summary of the peacekeepers. Earlier, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire on the positions of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army in the direction of Magavuz. This incident was reported in the report of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The protest of the Azerbaijani side was both that instead of the toponym Magavuz, the name Chardaghly should be used, and regarding the prevention of "provocative actions of Armenians." In its statement, the RCC recalled that the Russian Armed Forces and the peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh, in the course of carrying out training and combat missions, use toponyms established by the topographic maps of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces.
