Asia (bbabo.net), - The people of Afghanistan should choose for themselves who they want to see in power. Ahmad Masud, leader of the Afghan National Resistance Front opposing the Taliban (an organization banned in the Russian Federation), said this during the Herat Security Dialogue conference in Dushanbe, Sputnik Tajikistan news agency reports today, November 30.
General elections are capable of saving the country and leading it out of the crisis, Massoud believes. In order to develop a mechanism for their implementation, according to him, an internal, regional and international consensus is needed.
“If the Taliban come to power as a result of elections, I will accept it without dispute, because the people will decide so,” said Ahmad Massoud.
He added that giving the people of the country the opportunity to decide their own fate should be the main aspiration of all forces trying to change the situation in Afghanistan.
The Herat Security Dialogue conference is taking place these days in the capital of Tajikistan. Its delegates were 120 people from 20 countries. The event is dedicated to the problems and threats coming from Afghanistan.
