Iran is building a new nuclear power plant

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - Construction of a new 300 megawatt (MW) nuclear power plant has begun in Iran's southwestern province of Khuzestan. This was reported by Tasnim News on December 3.

The new nuclear power plant, named "Karun", is located in the Darhovein district near the Shadegan district of Khuzestan province. The launch of the project was carried out by the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami.

Located on an area of about 50 hectares near the Karun River, the nuclear power plant will be equipped with a pressurized water reactor (PWR), a type of light water nuclear reactor, to generate 300 megawatts of electricity.

The new power plant, which will be put into operation for 8 years, is designed by Iranian specialists and will be equipped with Iranian technologies.

With a budget of 1.5 to 2 billion dollars, the project will provide the region's need for electricity. Earlier, Iranian MP Ali-Reza Salimi said that enriching uranium to 60% is Iran's inalienable right to meet its domestic needs for fuel, medicines and other peaceful uses.

Iranian Energy Minister Akbar Mehriaban noted that his country will exchange electricity with Azerbaijan and Russia: the synchronization of Iran's energy systems with Russia has been completed.

Russia and Azerbaijan are also taking technical measures to synchronize with the Iranian power system.
