Russia creates a shadow fleet of tankers to transport its oil - Financial Times

United States (bbabo.net), - Amid Western sanctions, the Russian Federation purchased more than a hundred tankers under various schemes to transport oil produced on its territory.

This was reported by the Financial Times, citing brokers surveyed. It is noted that Moscow allegedly purchased ships both directly and through intermediaries.

According to brokers, among the agencies are Braemar and Rystad, in this way Russia is forming a “shadow” tanker fleet to ensure the transportation of its oil.

As proof of their assumptions, the agency cites a comment by Anup Singh, who heads the tanker research department at Braemar.

“These are buyers with whom we, as longtime brokers, are not familiar. We are confident that most of these ships are intended for Russia,” he said.

It is specified that the tankers will allegedly transport Russian oil to countries such as India, China and Turkey.

As bbabo.net reported, according to Bloomberg, the cost of chartering ships to supply Russian oil has begun to rise sharply as tanker owners refuse to ship due to increased risks ahead of EU sanctions on December 5.

Thus, the rates for the delivery of Russian oil from the ports of the Baltic Sea to India may reach $20 per barrel. This is one and a half times more expensive than before.
