Minsk and Moscow accused the OSCE of double standards

Belarus (bbabo.net), - Belarussia are in favor of eliminating "double standards" in the work of the OSCE and increasing the efficiency of the organization. This is stated in the joint statement of the countries, distributed today, December 2.

“We declare the importance of maintaining the OSCE as a regional pan-European forum operating on the basis of the rule of consensus and the principle of the sovereign equality of states, in the interests of strengthening security and developing cooperation between the participating states. We are convinced of the need to increase the effectiveness of the OSCE and eliminate “double standards”, geographic and thematic distortions in its activities,” the statement says.

Minsk and Moscow called on the OSCE structures, including the Secretary General and the Chairmanship, to comply with the procedures and decisions of the decision-making bodies and "follow the principles of impartiality, transparency and accountability." In addition, the countries advocated the promotion of a positive agenda, openness to discuss complex issues and "a disposition towards a de-ideologized pragmatic dialogue to address common security problems." We are talking about "the fight against international terrorism, organized crime, illegal migration, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, threats in the field of information technology and illegal trafficking in weapons, drugs, and human trafficking."

At the same time, among the priority topics for discussion at the OSCE platform, Belarussia see the development of cooperation to overcome economic challenges and "the expansion of cooperation free from protectionism and discrimination in the fields of transport, energy, trade, tourism, strengthening interconnection." At the same time, “respect for the diversity of civilizational and cultural-historical ways of the OSCE participating States, the unacceptability of the concept of exclusivity or superiority of some participating States over others” was designated as an important principle for conducting dialogue within the OSCE.

Recall that the 29th Council of OSCE Foreign Ministers ended in Lodz, Poland. Belarus was represented by the Permanent Representative of the Republic to the OSCE Andrei Dapkyunas, Russia - Alexander Lukashevich.
