USA (bbabo.net), - The Director General of the Estonian National Defense Investment Center (RKIK) Magnus-Valdemar Saar has signed an agreement with the US Defense and Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA). This contract concerns the purchase of HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, writes err.ee.

“Weapon systems will be purchased from the United States, the weapons manufacturer is Lockheed Martin. The total value of the contract is over $200 million,” RKIK said in a press release.

This is the largest military purchase in the history of Estonia. “As part of the agreement, in addition to multiple launch rocket systems, Estonia will also purchase ammunition and communications equipment. The agreement also includes the solution of issues related to training and logistics. The package also includes various missiles with a range of 70 to 300 kilometers,” said Ramil Lipp, head of the armaments department at the Defense Investment Center.

“HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems are a new and important step in the development of the Estonian defense capability, which makes it possible to decisively influence the enemy even before he comes into contact with our infantry units. This is a standard NATO system that promotes comprehensive cooperation with other allies in the alliance,” said the head of the department of the General Staff of the Estonian Defense Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Kaarel Mäesalu.

Latvia and Lithuania will also buy HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems from the US. The first deliveries are expected in 2024.
