Turkey and the United States discussed the price ceiling for Russian oil

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo discussed the Russian oil price ceiling during a conversation with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal.

“They discussed imposing a price cap on Russian oil delivered by sea,” the US Treasury Department said in a widespread statement.

Adeyemo during the conversation stressed that "the price cap regime will apply only to oil of Russian origin and does not require additional checks of ships passing through Turkish territorial waters."

“The parties stressed the existence of common interests in the context of maintaining a sufficient level of supply in the global energy market through the introduction of a simple control regime, in accordance with which permission will be granted for the transit of offshore oil through the Turkish straits,” the message says.

Turkish media have previously reported that Ankara has indeed started asking for proof of insurance from Russian oil tankers after a number of countries imposed a cap on energy prices, but officials deny that the measure has created congestion in the Bosporus and Dardanelles.

At the same time, Bloomberg wrote that tankers with Kazakh oil cannot leave the Black Sea, as Turkey insists on proof that they are properly insured.
