The head of the Pentagon promised to strengthen the Ukrainian air defense system

USA (bbabo.net), - Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov and Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin discussed by phone on Monday the strengthening of the air defense system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“During our telephone conversation today, we discussed further steps to strengthen Ukraine's air defense. Thank you USA for your continued support,” Reznikov wrote on Twitter.

As stated in a written statement by Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder, circulated on Monday, Lloyd Austin assured his Ukrainian counterpart in a telephone conversation that Washington considers the further supply of air defense equipment to Kiev a key task.

Austin, he said, "reaffirmed that air defense is a key priority" as part of the "U.S. security assistance effort." According to the head of the Pentagon, this "is confirmed by recent commitments to provide Ukraine with additional ammunition for the United States-supplied NASAMS [anti-aircraft missile systems], as well as countermeasures for unmanned aerial vehicles." As Ryder elaborated, Austin and Reznikov "promised to maintain close contact."

An air raid alert was issued across Ukraine on Monday, followed by reports of explosions and blackouts in several cities and districts of the country. According to the Ukrenergo holding, an increase in the shortage of electricity in the system is expected in the next 24 hours, in connection with which emergency shutdowns will occur in all regions.
