A publication released the night before, December 5, said that some of the Russian Kh-101 cruise missiles used to strike Ukraine's critical infrastructure in November were produced no later than October 2022, despite Western sanctions, including regarding electronic components.

The New York Times concludes that this indicates that Moscow has found channels to acquire semiconductors to bypass anti-Russian sanctions.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to the request of the leaders of the Donbass republics for help.
