Asia (bbabo.net) - Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar will visit New York on December 13 in connection with India's Presidency of the UN Security Council. This was announced today, December 12, by the Indian Foreign Ministry.
“Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar will visit New York to preside over two high-level ministerial meetings under India’s current UN Security Council Presidency on 14 and 15 December 2022,” the statement said.
It notes that the open debate on 14 December is on "A new benchmark for reformed multilateralism" and the high-level briefing on 15 December is on "Global Approach to Counter Terrorism - Challenges and Moving Forward".
During the visit, the Indian Foreign Minister will take part in the unveiling ceremony of the bust of the leader of the Indian national liberation movement Mahatma Gandhi at the UN headquarters. The bust, a gift from India to the United Nations, will be the first sculpture of Gandhi to be installed at UN Headquarters.
“The [Indian] Foreign Minister is also expected to hold meetings with the UN Secretary General and the President of the General Assembly, as well as bilateral conversations with his colleagues participating in high-level formal events under the Indian Chairmanship,” the document reads, excerpted from leads TASS.
The head of the Indian Foreign Ministry will also open a photo exhibition dedicated to the International Year of Millet, which, at the initiative of India, is celebrated in 2023. During the visit, a dinner based on millet dishes will be organized for the UN Secretary General and the UN Security Council member states.
