Greater Middle East (bbabo.net), - The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the Australian government's actions to impose sanctions on a number of Iranian individuals and entities. This was reported by the Tasnim agency on December 12.
Islamic Republic Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani condemned the Australian government's actions to impose sanctions on Iranian individuals and entities, describing them as unlawful interference in Iran's internal affairs, inciting and promoting violence and hatred.
He said Australia's new anti-Iranian move comes at a time when the Canberra government has been violating the basic fundamental rights of Indigenous Australians and prisoners for years. Kanaani noted that Australia has also provided safe haven to anti-Iranian terrorist and separatist groups.
Pointing to the numerous reports of human rights violations in Australia by international organizations, Kanaani said that Canberra violated its human rights obligations by preventing the International Committee for the Prevention of Torture from visiting refugee detention centers because the Australian government "covers up its inhumane treatment of people."
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also reminded Australia of its international obligations to fight terrorism and uphold human rights. He described the human rights situation in Australia as "bleak", stressing that the Australian government's illegal actions deserve attention and reaction from the international community.
