Ukraine (bbabo.net), - Vienna does not consider it possible for Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to join the European Union on an accelerated basis. This was announced today, December 12, by Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
“From the EU's point of view, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) does not yet meet all the entry criteria, but various forms of dialogue must be used to bring the country closer to the union. From the Austrian point of view, shortened accession procedures are not suitable for either Bosnia or Ukraine,” he said during a meeting of the European Affairs Committee of the Austrian Parliament.
On February 28, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky asked for immediate admission of Ukraine to the European Union. On June 23, the heads of state and government of the European Union decided to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for joining the community, while Bosnia and Herzegovina was denied.
Later, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that Kyiv has a long way to go, to carry out important reforms so that the country can become closer to the EU. In addition, Brussels noted that the issue of accepting Ukraine cannot be resolved until the end of the armed conflict on the territory of the republic.
