Heads of several energy enterprises detained in Uzbekistan

Asia (, - The Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan, Nigmatilla Yuldashev, announced the arrest of several heads of energy enterprises in connection with the initiation of criminal cases against them. This was reported today, on December 12, by Fergana News Agency.

Among the detainees are the director of the Khududgaztaminot branch in the Tashkent region, Muzaffar Aliyev, the head of the Yangiyul Tumangaz enterprise, Umid Tuychiev, and the former head of the Gulistan regional electric grid enterprise, Furkat Shodmonkulov.

“If responsible persons in other regions do not draw the right conclusions from this and commit violations of the law, the same criminal case will certainly be initiated against them,” said Sardor Umurzakov, head of the presidential administration of Uzbekistan.

He promised that those responsible for the energy crisis "will not get away with it."

Currently, due to the lack of gas in Uzbekistan, there is an energy crisis and a fuel crisis. Areas that use coal for heating also experience shortages of solid fuels.

Umurzakov demanded that the management of Uztransgaz, the Ministry of Energy, the enterprises Regional Electric Networks, Uzbekugol and Uzbekiston Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) take measures to address these problems.

Earlier, on behalf of the President of the Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a government working group was created to quickly study and solve problems in the field of energy resources. It was headed by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov.

Three ministries - energy, economic development and poverty reduction, investment and foreign trade - were instructed to organize round-the-clock headquarters for prompt and systematic resolution of issues in the field of energy supply. The Uzbek authorities have completely stopped gas exports and started negotiations with other countries on additional purchases of energy resources.

According to Deputy Energy Minister Sherzod Khodjaev, in order to save electricity and natural gas, the government is considering the issue of providing early vacations for schoolchildren and university students.
