Washington to announce sanctions against more than 30 Chinese technology companies

Asia (bbabo.net), - The US will impose sanctions on more than 30 Chinese technology companies this week, including the country's largest memory chip maker, YMTC. This was announced today, December 14, by Bloomberg, citing sources.

According to him, the sanctions imply a ban on the purchase of American semiconductors and equipment for the production of microcircuits, unless the suppliers have a special export permit issued by the US Department of Commerce. It is noted that this decision of the Joe Biden administration indicates the escalation of the Sino-American conflict in the field of technology.

Bloomberg recalls that in October, the US Department of Commerce imposed restrictions on 28 Chinese technology companies, blocking their access to semiconductor chips produced by American technologies around the world. In addition, the list of so-called unverified importers of American products (Unverified List, UVL) made 31 organizations in China, including YMTC. The companies were then given 60 days to prove that their activities did not threaten US national security.

According to the agency, Beijing sought to prevent the inclusion of YMTC in the sanctions list, in this regard, the PRC Ministry of Commerce helped this and other companies, at the request of Washington, organize product end-use inspections.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said earlier that Washington's task is not to slow China's economic growth rate, but not to allow it to use American technology to develop its military capabilities. According to her, the restrictions apply only to the latest technologies, since it makes no sense to control the distribution of standard microcircuits.

Beijing, in turn, is convinced that the United States is using its technological superiority to contain and suppress the development of emerging economies, and Washington's scientific and technological hegemony can disrupt the global supply chain and industrial chain, cites excerpts from the TASS publication.
