Back to Iran, facing Israel: anti-Iranian sentiment measured in Azerbaijan

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - The Baku Center for Social Research (CSR) in the course of a public opinion poll conducted from December 5 to 11, found out the attitude of Azerbaijani residents towards Iran and Israel.

As reported today, December 16, APA news agency, according to the results of the survey, in the Azerbaijani society, "the speeches of President Ilham Aliyev regarding Iran are quite positively assessed." Respondents were asked the question: “Do you support the President’s statement that “we will do everything to ensure the protection of Azerbaijanis in Iran, they are part of our nation”?”. 67.2% of the respondents answered "yes, I support", 19% - "mostly support". 2.1% said they generally do not support, 6.7% said they do not support at all. 5.1% found it difficult to answer the question.

An analysis of attitudes towards recent protests in Iran revealed interesting points, the newspaper notes. 21.3% of respondents suggested that protests in the neighboring country could lead to "a split in the Iranian state", 31% - "to regime change". 12.8% of those polled noted that the protests would not change the regime, but could strengthen the voice of Iranians in defense of their rights and freedoms. 14.2% of the survey participant said they do not expect serious results from the protests.

According to the results of the poll, Azerbaijan's opening of an embassy in Israel was received positively. To the question “how do you feel about the opening of an embassy in Israel by Azerbaijan?”, 61% of respondents chose the answer “Israel is a reliable partner, and I consider the establishment of an embassy important.” 11.3% expressed the opinion that, given the proximity to Iran, one should be careful in this matter. 4.1% said they did not support the opening of an embassy in Israel at all. 14.6% of the respondents expressed a neutral position, saying "I don't care". 9% of respondents found it difficult to answer this question.

The study involved 390 respondents over 18 years of age. The polls were conducted in the form of telephone interviews and covered 12 economic regions of Azerbaijan.

As reported by bbabo.net, last Thursday Israeli Ambassador to Baku George Dick called for the creation of an anti-Iranian alliance, which, together with the Jewish state, could include Azerbaijan, Turkey and Arab countries.
