Asia (bbabo.net), - Automotive giant Toyota Motor is having serious problems selling its electric vehicles. Targets for their sales have remained below the expected level for two years. This was announced today, January 10, TASS reports with reference to the Financial Times.

The newspaper cites data from leasing company Kinto, according to which, in May 2022, the first electric car Toyota bZ4X was recalled just a few weeks after the start of sales due to problems with the wheels. Production resumed only in October.

“For the first time in the history of the company, a product recall occurred immediately after the start of sales. Toyota is in an unprecedented difficult situation, ”Kinto President Shinya Kotera quoted the publication as saying.

He noted that the company's goal of selling 5,000 electric vehicles annually in Japan will not be achieved "neither in the first nor next year." In an attempt to stimulate sales, Kinto had to halve the one-time fee for ordering a vehicle.
