The only power line is out of order: rolling blackouts began in Nagorno-Karabakh

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - An accident occurred on the only power transmission line leading from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh, local media reported today, January 10.

A power outage occurred last Monday at 14.35 (13.35 Moscow time) at the 33rd kilometer of the Goris-Stepanakert power line (section Ahavno-Berdzor).

Due to the position of Azerbaijan, it is impossible to carry out restoration work, so it was decided to supply the population with electricity by local power plants, introducing appropriate restrictions, the Nagorno-Karabakh Information Headquarters said.

Based on this, rolling blackouts began in Nagorno-Karabakh on January 10. In order to avoid additional blackouts, the population of the unrecognized republic is asked to use electricity as economically as possible.

Recall that the Lachin corridor, the only transport link between Nagorno-Karabakh and the outside world, has been blocked by Azerbaijani activists since December 12. According to the tripartite statement of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan dated November 9, 2020, the 5 km wide corridor should be under the control of the Russian peacekeeping contingent. The protest action with the main demand to stop the "environmental terror" has been going on for 30 days.
