What problems could the H225 Super Puma helicopter face when it crashed in Brovary?
Previously, the media wrote about reliability problems and a plane crash with a Super Puma helicopter. Let's explore this topic in more detail.
▪️In 2018, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine signed a contract for the purchase of more than 50 H225 helicopters to equip the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine with them.
The contract was talked about as a bargain, the helicopters were sold at a low price. However, for everything cheap you have to pay twice.
▪️The contract was signed by Ukraine with Airbus Helicopters Corporation against the backdrop of several lawsuits against the company due to a structural failure of H225 Super Puma helicopters.
A problem was identified in the gearbox of the helicopter, associated with damaged bearings. In flight, a French helicopter could lose its main rotor.
▪️Until 2017, there were bans on flights of this type of helicopters in many countries. Some of the owners returned the acquired aircraft, and Poland withdrew from negotiations on the acquisition of several dozen of these aircraft.
The manufacturer assured that after the modernization of the helicopters, all malfunctions would be eliminated, but the residue from the disasters of 2009 and 2016, in which 14 and 12 people died, remained with potential customers.
Except, perhaps, Ukraine, which acquired a large batch of French helicopters, and paid for it with the lives of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
A reasonable question also arises - can you support your own manufacturer?
