Tokayev is going to dissolve the Parliament of Kazakhstan

Asia (bbabo.net), - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held consultations with the chairmen of both houses of parliament and the country's prime minister on the dissolution of the Mazhilis (lower house of parliament) and the early termination of the powers of maslikhats (local legislative assemblies). This was announced today, January 19, by the press service of the head of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Tokayev recalled that the people of Kazakhstan supported political reforms in the referendum, including those aimed at updating the procedure formation of parliament and maslikhats.

“In my September message, I presented a schedule of upcoming election campaigns. In accordance with it, extraordinary presidential elections were held in November last year. Some of the deputies of the Senate were recently elected. Now we have to hold elections to the Mazhilis and maslikhats,” he said.

Tokayev reportedly listened to Maulen Ashimbayev, chairman of the Senate (upper house of parliament), Yerlan Koshanov, chairman of the Mazhilis, and Alikhan Smailov, Prime Minister, saying he would make a final decision based on their proposals.
