The US Navy has replenished its tanker fleet with a vessel with close combat systems

USA (bbabo.net), - The US Navy in San Diego, California, has taken delivery of the new support vessel USNS Earl Warren (T-AO 207). The ship will be deployed as part of the US Naval Sealift Command, reports today, January 23, The Defense Post.

USNS Earl Warren can carry 162,000 barrels (26 million liters) of diesel fuel for ships and aircraft, as well as dry cargo. It is built with a double hull to prevent oil spills and is equipped with self-defense equipment such as torpedo decoys and other crew-served weapons.

The 746-foot (227-meter) long vessel can also be armed with close combat systems, including anti-ship missiles.

The $3.2 billion project has been implemented by General Dynamics since 2016. It provides for the construction of six ships. The US Navy plans to increase the fleet of such support vessels by 20 units, the Pentagon said in a statement.
