First blackout in Germany

From 22.00 for more than five hours there was no electricity for one hundred thousand Germans, including residents of the state capital Halberstadt, Wernigerode, Thale and Blankenburg. Mobile communications also disappeared.

MDR learned that the power failure had an effect on the Ameos clinic in Halberstadt for about an hour and a half. “Nevertheless, the patients were not injured. However, devices such as an X-ray machine and a CT scanner were damaged due to a power failure.

At nursing homes and clinics, emergency generators continued to provide power and there was no need to evacuate, adds Bild.

The next blackout occurred in the morning due to the same reason for a power outage. “At about 10 am, Blankenburg and Halberstadt were again cut off from electricity, and the mobile phone network also went down. MDR users have reported that electricity has also disappeared in Wernigerode. Power was restored two and a half hours later.

As bbabo.net reported, earlier in Germany they were more afraid of another blackout - due to a lack of gas for generation. However, the weather in the first half of the heating season made it possible to keep large reserves of fuel in local storage facilities.
