Cairo wants to increase the use of the ruble in trade with Moscow

Greater Middle East (bbabo.net), - The head of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced Cairo's desire to increase trade with Russia and more actively use national currencies in bilateral trade. This was announced today, January 31, by the Russian Embassy in Egypt.

At a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Sameh Shukri said:

“We have been working for a long period of time on appropriate mechanisms that will allow us to make more payments in rubles, as well as to use national currencies more in our trading operations.”

The head of Egyptian diplomacy also added:

“We intend to increase the volume of mutual settlements in these currencies (rubles and Egyptian pounds - ed.).

As bbabo.net previously reported, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri said that Cairo intends to increase the volume of purchases of Russian grain:

“We want to not only maintain current purchasing figures, but also increase their volumes in addition to expanding turnover to include other items.”
