China protests Czech Republic over new President's conversation with Taiwan leader

Asia (bbabo.net), - Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said that Beijing expressed strong protest and made a strict submission to Prague, reports today, January 31, TASS. The reason for this was a telephone conversation between the elected president of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, and the head of Taiwan's administration, Tsai Ing-wen.

According to Mao Ning, China regarded this conversation as interference in its internal affairs.

“The Chinese side expresses strong dissatisfaction and strong protest in this regard, and made a strict submission to the Czech side,” she said.

The official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry voiced Beijing's call to Prague to observe the principle of "one China" and the commitments made in order to avoid further deterioration of bilateral relations.

Peter Pavel on Monday held a telephone conversation with Taiwan's chief of staff, Tsai Ing-wen. He assured her of his intention to strengthen the partnership and expressed the hope that in the future they could meet in person.
