Ukraine (bbabo.net), - Training of Ukrainian tankmen in the management and maintenance of Leopard 2 tanks supplied by Germany and allies will start next week, but they will only have time to teach Ukrainians the very basics, Spiegel reports, citing its sources.
“The Bundeswehr next week will begin training Ukrainian crews on the Leopard 2 tank,” the newspaper writes.
As Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced earlier, the first groups of Ukrainian military have already been transferred to Germany from Poland. The training will take place at a training ground near the Lower Saxon city of Munster, where Ukrainian soldiers are already training to operate the Marder infantry fighting vehicle.
According to Spiegel, the Bundeswehr plans to conduct accelerated training so that Ukrainian crews will learn the basics of servicing a German tank within six to eight weeks.
Due to lack of time, Ukrainians will be taught only the basics, since crew training usually takes several years, a source in the defense department noted.
