Ukraine (bbabo.net), - More than a million Ukrainian refugees have been taken in by Germany since the start of the war, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said in a study published Feb. 16. According to Destatis, since February 24, 2022, 1.1 million people have fled Ukraine to Germany. A good two-thirds of them - 68% in the first weeks, that is, in the period up to May. Most of them - 430 thousand profits in March.
139 thousand people returned from Germany to Ukraine in 2022. The difference between net immigration and the number of emigrants is 962 thousand. The number of Ukrainian citizens living in Germany in January 2022 increased from 138 thousand to 1.02 million. This means not only an increase by several orders of magnitude, but also that net immigration from Ukraine in 2022 exceeds the total net immigration of citizens of Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq registered during the last major wave of refugees in the period 2014-2016, which then amounted to 834 thousand people.
Another consequence of the wave of refugees is that the share of Ukrainian citizens in the population of Germany increased from 0.2% to 1.2% in just a year, which makes them the second largest community of foreign citizens after 1.33 million (1.6%) Turk.
The vast majority of those who arrived in Germany from Ukraine are women or children. Women and girls make up 63%, and children under the age of 18 make up 35%. The proportion of women aged 18 to 60 is 71%, and those over sixty - 70%.
Ukrainian refugees mainly settled in the most densely populated lands of Germany: 210 thousand people live in North Rhine-Westphalia, 152 thousand in Bavaria and 135 thousand in Baden-Württemberg. From the point of view of their share in the local population, a somewhat different picture emerges. In the first place is the capital of Germany - Berlin, where in January 2022 the share of Ukrainian citizens increased from 0.37% to 1.47%. Second is Hamburg, where it rose from 0.21% to 1.46%, and third is Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where it rose from 0.25% to 1.35%.
