United States (bbabo.net), - The Federation Council unanimously approved today, February 22, at a plenary session, a law on suspension of the Treaty between Russia and the United States on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive arms (START, START-3). #

The document was submitted to the State Duma by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The deputies unanimously passed the law. The START is suspended, and the decision to resume Russia's participation in the treaty will be made by the President of the Russian Federation. The law shall enter into force on the day of its official publication.

The agreement was signed in Prague on April 8, 2010. It is concluded between Russia and the United States and involves the reduction of nuclear arsenals of both countries.

On February 21, Putin announced the decision to suspend Russia's participation in START in his address to the Federal Assembly. The President stressed that Russia is not withdrawing from the treaty, but before returning to discussing the issue of continuing work in accordance with this document, the Russian side must understand for itself how the START will take into account the arsenals not only of the United States, but also of other NATO nuclear powers — Great Britain and France.
