At the beginning of the meeting, the Russian leader asked to convey his best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping, calling him a friend.

"Russian-Chinese relations are developing progressively, reaching new frontiers," Vladimir Putin said.

He admitted that the goal of $200 billion in trade between Russia and China would be reached ahead of schedule.

In turn, Wang Yi conveyed Xi Jinping's sincere greetings to the head of the Russian state, after which he stated that Beijing is ready to strengthen strategic cooperation with Moscow in the interests of our countries and the whole world.

“Relations between Russia and China have withstood pressure from the international community, are developing steadily, and are not subject to pressure from third parties,” he said.

Also during the meeting, President Putin confirmed that Russia is waiting for the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“We are waiting for the President of the People's Republic of China to visit Russia. We agreed on this before,” he said.

The Russian leader added that he understands that China has its own internal agenda, but proceeds from the fact that the general plans for personal meetings will be implemented.
