Head of the International Gas Union: Europe needs Israel

Greater Middle East (bbabo.net) - André Steger, the new president of the International Gas Union, believes that Israel will be able to provide up to ten percent of Europe's gas consumption in the medium term. It is reported by Israel Hayom.

Steger arrived in Israel as part of the national energy conference of the Israel Institute for Energy and the Environment. He emphasized that Israel must develop its energy market to achieve this goal:

“We are working to overcome the crisis, and every molecule is important. The Middle East, and Israel in particular, can play an important role in resolving the crisis. There is currently a vast platform for gas exports from Israel to Europe, as well as to meet the needs of the local economy.”

Steger added:

“Being a small country does not prevent you from doing your part. Especially in a European context. Israel is in a good position to deal with the problems we face. During my visit, I saw that significant steps had already been taken. We need to replace 100 billion cubic meters of Russian gas. According to my estimates, 5-10% is the right target to aim for in the medium term. For this to happen, it is necessary to develop existing gas resources, as well as promote further investment. And, of course, there has been a significant shift in Europe from immediate supply requirements to long-term needs.”
