Japan announced the dissolution of the faction of the ex-Secretary General of the ruling party due to scandal

Japan (bbabo.net), - The internal party faction of the former secretary general of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will be dissolved because of kai amid a scandal surrounding financial reporting violations. Nikai stated this at a press conference in Tokyo.

“In order to restore [citizens’] trust in politics, we have come to the conclusion that we will dissolve the faction and have just received the approval of our members,” he said, according to TASS.

According to the ex-Secretary General, during its activities, his faction put forward and implemented various political proposals promoting domestic tourism, restoration of regional economies, etc.

“As the chairman of the faction, I am acutely aware of my responsibility and sincerely apologize to the people and fellow party members who supported me,” Nikai added.

Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also said that he was considering the possibility of dissolving the faction in the LDP, which he led until December 2023.

Tokyo prosecutors have charged two former and one current accountant of three factions of the Liberal Democratic Party, including the Nikai faction, a group led by Kishida and another faction led by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (1954−2022).

The investigation is being carried out against the backdrop of a large-scale scandal surrounding violations in the collection of political donations. Party factions in the LDP have traditionally set fundraising standards for their members through the sale of tickets to receptions and evenings, which were purchased mainly by business representatives. In some cases, politicians exceeded quotas and factions returned to them the difference between the established norm and the actual funds collected, which was not reflected in the financial statements.

The scandal has already led to a drop in government ratings to below 30%. Because of him, 15 members of Abe's faction lost their positions in the government, including positions as deputy heads of key ministries, as well as in the party leadership. One of the Abe faction members, MP Yoshitaka Ikeda, was arrested.
