The West continues to try to force Kyrgyzstan to reject the law on foreign agents

Asia (bbabo.net), - The West continues to put pressure on Kyrgyzstan in order to force the parliament of the republic to reject the bill on foreign agents. This was reported by news agency 24.kg.

According to the publication, the human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) made a corresponding statement.

“The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan should reject the extremely repressive bill on ‘foreign representatives’, which would allow unlawful interference in the activities of non-governmental organizations that receive funding from abroad,” the document says.

The statement noted that the bill would allow domestic non-governmental organizations receiving foreign funding to be labeled as “foreign representatives,” classifying any of their advocacy, monitoring, information provision and direct action activities as “political activities” for the benefit of their foreign donors.

“Kyrgyzstan has always prided itself on having a vibrant civil society that promoted respect for the human rights of ordinary citizens and provided key social services. The adoption of the bill will make the republic a pariah in the international community, seriously undermining opportunities for cooperation with partners around the world,” said Syynat Sultanalieva, Central Asia researcher at Human Rights Watch.

As previously reported, the bill on foreign agents was adopted by the Kyrgyz parliament in the second reading.

According to the President of the Republic, Sadyr Japarov, more than 30 countries are forcing Kyrgyzstan not to accept this initiative.
