Roman Protasevich, pardoned by the President of Belarus, was no longer an extremist

Belarus (bbabo.net), - The new edition of the list of persons involved in extremist activities in Belarus no longer includes Roman Protasevich. Local media reported this today, February 2.

It is noted that Protasevich was on the list two months ago with the note “conviction not expunged.” At the same time, the list still contains the name of a Russian woman and Roman’s ex-fiancee, Sofya Sapega, who was detained with him and later sentenced to 6 years in prison.

Let us remind you that Protasevich and Sapieha were detained on May 23, 2021 during an inspection of the Ryanair Athens-Vilnius flight in Minsk. Protasevich was accused of leading an “extremist” formation, inciting hostility, calling for the seizure of power, etc. At first he was kept in a pre-trial detention center, then he was transferred to house arrest, and later on his own recognizance. In May 2023, the court sentenced him to 8 years in prison. However, almost immediately he was pardoned by Alexander Lukashenko.
