Asia (bbabo.net), - In the Alma-Ata region of Kazakhstan, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted into the smuggling of fish on an especially large scale. This was reported by the regional department of the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) of the republic.
According to the information released, the Kazakh entrepreneur sent pike perch fillets to the European Union countries, which he caught in local reservoirs. However, in the accompanying documents the country of origin of the fish was indicated as Kyrgyzstan.
“It was established that in the period from July 2022 to April 2023, the legal entity exported more than 1,135 tons of pike perch fillet to the EU countries,” the department said in a statement.
The AFM added that during the investigation, the fact of shipping fish products with a total weight of 125 tons for export was suppressed.
